Sources policy
Choose sources for the claim
Prefer relevant official standards, regulators, technical associations, manufacturer documentation and established technical literature. A source must support the actual claim being made. A product sales page can describe a product specification but is not automatically an adequate basis for a safety calculation.
Keep the evidence traceable
The source record should include the title, organization, URL, source type, access date, supported claims, confidence and whether the source is commercial. The tool should make its important sources and methodology accessible to visitors. An AI-generated answer is not itself a technical source.
Handle conflicts and gaps
When sources disagree, check their scope, units, conditions and revision before choosing a value. If the evidence cannot support a reliable result, narrow the supported use case or withhold the recommendation. Do not invent a constant to complete a calculator.
Review source changes
Access dates record when material was consulted; they do not prove that a source remains current indefinitely. Product specifications need their own verification date. Broken links, changed specifications and disputed claims can be reported through the contact page with the relevant tool and source URLs.
